HANCOCK — What began as a routine patrol on the opening day of trout season ended with Environmental Conservation Officers issuing a string of violations to a group of anglers in Delaware County.

On April 1, Officers Nathan Doig and Dustin Osborne of the state Department of Environmental Conservation were conducting compliance checks along the Delaware River when they spotted two vehicles parked on private property in the town of Hancock — an area known to attract fishermen seeking access to the West Branch.

After confirming with the landowner that no permission had been granted to fish or park on the site, officers waited and soon observed five individuals exiting the area. The anglers were found in possession of six trout taken without authorization.

Each received two tickets: one for trespassing on posted property and another for illegally taking trout without the landowner’s consent — resulting in a total of 10 violations.
