Bovina Public Library has announced scholarship awards to 2024 graduates. The Hugh Lee Memorial Scholarship was awarded to two graduates: Elsa Morganstern, South Kortright Central School, and Andrew Liddle, Delaware Academy.

Rose McPheely, Delaware Academy, was awarded the Jean Marie Collin Memorial Scholarship, an annual $1,500 award for up to four consecutive years of college or professional training that goes to a Bovina graduate who demonstrates character and community appreciation through his or her activities and academic achievements. Jean Collin began her formal education at age 22 while working as a secretary for Pfizer Co. Her career advanced in concert with the degrees she earned. Her eleven year educational journey culminated in an MBA in Strategic Management. As Risk Manager for Pfizer in 2001, Jean was giving a presentation at the World Trade Center on September 11. Tragically she perished in the disaster. The scholarship honors her spirit and dedication by supporting like-minded students. McPheely was awarded the Jean Marie Collin Scholarship for her exceptional character and community appreciation. Whether in the classroom, in club leadership positions, in school musicals, or at her part-time and volunteer positions, Rose exudes both integrity and generosity. McPheely will enroll in the Freshman Arts Program at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. This program will allow her to explore a range of classes, from religion and theater to sociology and the environment. It seems a perfect match for her desire to learn and her fearlessness in not knowing.

Elsa Morganstern and Andrew Liddle each received the Hugh Lee Memorial Scholarship. Morganstern will enroll at University at Albany planning to study Public History with a career goal of being a museum archivist or curator. Andrew Liddle will enroll at SUNY Delhi in the golf & sports turf management program. He has always been good at three-dimensional thinking – running equipment and knowing what buttons control what parts of a machine.

The Hugh Lee Memorial Scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000. Lee dedicated his life to many Bovina organizations and played an integral role in the growth and development of the Bovina Public Library.

The Library Board of Trustees and the founders of the Jean Marie Collin Memorial Scholarship make up the selection committee.
